Chapter Twenty Seven

"We have trouble staying upright when we are around each other, don’t we?" He questioned, seriously. I giggled to myself wondering if the sexual innuendo that could be presumed by his words was lost on him.

"What is funny?" He asked, staring at me, confirming my thoughts, before his face turned red and his head dropped. "I didn’t mean it like that." He stammered, trying his best to maintain his composure.

"I know, my mind’s just always in the gutter. I could take the simplest of statements and turn them into some sort of erotic message. Sorry."

"It’s okay, I know what you mean, but it just takes me a little while to get what everyone is laughing about. You might have heard that from the other guys."

"Yes, I’ve heard, and experienced it, the day we all spent at the pool, they tease you endlessly."

He smiled at the memories, a warm glow in his eyes that I had never seen reflected there before. "I enjoy their teasing."

"It seems that way." I replied, not knowing what else to say and feeling awkward. This was not the JC I had encountered at the pool my first night in Orlando, this was not the JC that I had spent time comforting, this was not the JC that had fucked me and marred my skin, only to visit me the next day to apologize by making my body yearn for him every day since. This was not the person that I knew at all, but maybe this person really was JC.

He was dressed casually, khaki shorts and a blue shirt, his feet were bare. His hair was sticking up in all different directions, not neatly gelled as I had grown accustom to, and his face was covered by a full day’s worth of beard growth. The man that stood before me did not look as put together as the one that I had encountered before, and for that I was grateful for he seemed more comfortable and relaxed. The lines of worry and hurt had disappeared from his face, the redness had disappeared from his blue eyes, the dark circles underneath them had faded and his lips expanded into a smile. He was even more gorgeous. I looked away from him, hoping that he didn’t notice my taking inventory of his features.

"Blake, are you hungry, I was going to get something to eat. Want to go?" I turned back to look at him, but he quickly averted my gaze, leaving me to wonder why.

"Sure, I’m starving." I said with a growl and he smiled.

We turned and walked side by side back to the house. I stood outside and waited while he grabbed his keys and then we hopped into his Jeep. The ride to the restaurant was full of chatter, he told me funny stories about the guys in the group and about himself. He asked me questions about myself, but thankfully stayed away from any questions about my profession. The ride reminded me of two new friends getting to know each other, and that is what was happening.

I watched the scenery pass as I wondered where we were going. I had assumed that we would be heading to Joey’s restaurant, but obviously he had other plans. I smiled to myself as he finally turned into the parking lot of a small cafe. He parked the Jeep in the crowded lot. We exited the vehicle and walked toward the door. As we entered the quaint establishment, we were greeted by the waiter, who obviously expected JC.

"Mr. Chasez, I have your table reserved, please follow me." The tall, balding man stated as he led us to our table. As he pulled out my chair, and I took my seat I was overcome by the surroundings. I stared in amazement, the scenery was breathtaking. The small restaurant was situated on a cliff overlooking a body of water. Our table, I assumed, had the best view. It was located on the outside balcony, only inches from the railing that separated the restaurant from the drop off of the cliff. I sat at the table surrounded by the beauty. I could hear the sounds of the gentle waves lapping at the shore below and the birds singing, the smell of the salt water lingered in my nostrils, as the heat that radiated from the summer sun enveloped by body. Plants of all colors and varieties were positioned all around the balcony, surrounding us. Words could not capture the beauty. As I continued to look around, I noticed that there were at least nine other tables located on the balcony, however, they were all empty. Remembering the crowded parking lot, I wondered why anyone would choose to be inside instead of being seated right in the middle of these striking surroundings. I turned to find JC staring at me.

"It’s beautiful here, isn’t it?" He smiled at me.

"It’s breathtaking," I replied. "I’ve never seen anything like this. I wonder why more people aren’t sitting out here."

"I reserved the whole balcony. I wanted to be alone."

"Maybe I should have stayed back at the house." I laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

It worked, he laughed. "I didn’t mean it like that, I just meant that I didn’t want anything to interrupt our time together today. I want to talk to you."

My stomach churned, unsure of what he was about to say. He wanted to talk to me, I wasn’t sure if I was able to talk. The last time we had tried to talk, he left the restaurant pissed at me. I was better at fucking than talking and looking across the table at the man, my senses overwhelmed by the scenery, the only thing I could think of, was closing the distance that separated us, ripping off our clothes, and having sex with him right there.
